Interested in the culture and history of our area? Then we have two highlights in the region to offer: The Torvsjö Kvarnar Open-Air Museum, a complex stretching along a mill stream and including various historic buildings. Several grain mills, grindstones, a grain threshing facility, a sawmill and shingle plane, and a small power plant. Unusual for the time, all of this was powered by water power by extremely skilled and resourceful locals. The complex is complemented by a blacksmith shop, a grain sauna, and more. This settlement was founded in 1752 and was very remote at the time. The residents, who practiced agriculture, were able to provide for themselves, and the community spirit was always strong.
The Forest Museum is right next door. The Torvsjö Kvarnar complex shows how the residents were able to provide for themselves. The Forest Museum, on the other hand, sheds light on how the inhabitants of that time earned an income through forestry work, timber drifting, and charcoal production to buy things they couldn’t produce themselves, such as coffee, tea, kerosene, etc.
I’d be happy to guide you through both museums and give you an insight into life back then. You’ll be surprised and you’ll enjoy it!
